Emergency Immigration Rally for Adama, who is currently detained is facing deportation in five days
On June 9, 2019, Adama, A young Guinean refugee, husband and beloved member of the community will be deported to Guinea, despite a pending sponsorship application made by his wife who lives in Montreal. Quebec, Canada
Adama came to Canada and claimed refugee status in 2016 and has since built a life here in Montreal. He was active in a community group called United for Guineans status. It has since been refused asylum and deportation proceedings were initiated against him. Meanwhile, his wife made a sponsorship application. If Adama is expelled next week, his wife will have to start the sponsorship process, which is long and costly. It could be years before the couple is together, during which Adama live in conditions which he had fled there three years.
A recent CBC investigation showed how the Canadian government worked secretly with the Guinean Colonel Camara to prevent Guinean refugees to come to Canada. Yet Camara’s career shows exactly why people like Adama Guinea fleeing to seek asylum: the colonel is accused of crimes against humanity for his role in the violent suppression of a peaceful demonstration which was 150 dead and 100 women raped. Canada has significant financial ties with Guinea SNC Lavalin are currently implementing a project and the two countries signed a trade liberalization agreement in March, 2017.
